Programme for Pulmonary Technicians in Spirometry at eight centers
country, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Jaipur, Lucknow, Nagpur, Indore and
Delhi in the month of January and February for last 7 years. So far the
has trained more than 2000 candidates as spirometry technicians
and has given them a certificate of competence. Society has planned to
and enhance this important activity more vigorously by adding more
this year. This is a unique service which Indian Chest Society is
upbringing technical know how in the specialty of Respiratory Medicine.
Indian Chest Society is determined to act as a promoter for the academic and training activities in the field of respiratory medicine in the country. For last many years Indian Chest Society is organizing large number of Academic and Educational activities like Bronchoscopy Workshops, Intensive Respiratory Care Workshops, PFT Workshops and Sleep Breathing Disorders Workshops. We are in the process of starting a workshop on Pulmonary Rehabilitation also very soon. These workshops give an opportunity to the PG students, Practicing Chest physicians and young faculty members to learn the subject thoroughly. All the workshops will give ample chances of learning opportunities through the best faculties in the country along with providing chances of hands-on training to all the participants. We are determined to further extend these training activities in future for the benefit of the physicians in different parts of the country.
I am pleased to inform you that Indian Chest Society is arranging Short Term Training Programme of 3 weeks duration in State-of-Art Institutions on specialized subjects like Interventional Pulmonology, Intensive Respiratory Care, Sleep Disorders and Pulmonary Rehabilitation. The society will also provide financial assistance of Rs. 20,000/- per candidate for this programme. This training will give a chance to the members of Indian Chest Society to learn these newer advancements in the field of Respiratory Medicine.
I wish to inform you that the official journal of Indian Chest Society, Lung India is being published with new flavor and enriched scientific content regularly under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Virendra Singh, Jaipur. I am happy to inform you that the Lung India is now being published by monthly and the governing body of Indian Chest Society is determined to publish this prestigious journal in the field of respiratory medicine at monthly interval very soon. I am also pleased to inform that Lung India is already indexed in Indian Medlar and Pubmed. Its all previous issues are also available on Pubmed. I am further pleased to inform you that citation index of the journal is better than many prestigious medical journals. The ranking of Lung India as well as its National and International viewership is higher than other respiratory journals in the country and it is increasing continuously.
Indian chest society is also providing International Travel grant to young scientists lesser than 35 years of age for attending and presenting their research work in the International Conferences like ERS, ACCP and ATS. The travel grants consist of Rs. 50,000 (for ATS and ACCP International conferences) and Rs.35,000/- for ERS International conference along with complimentary registration which is being offered by the International Societies. This is one of the very important encouragements for young Chest Physicians to present and promote their research work in the International Conferences and many young scientists have already been benefited under this programme.
Indian Chest Society is determined to act as a promoter and stimulator for the research activities in the field of respiratory medicine in the country. In the pursuit for the same a multi-centric research project on diffuses paranchymal lung diseases at 36 centers in the country has been successfully completed under the leadership of Dr. Virendra Singh from Jaipur. The Indian Chest Society has further taken up two new research projects which are Registry of ABPA and Point Prevalence of Respiratory Diseases in India.
I am happy to inform you that in its pursuit to give newer dimension to the specialty of Respiratory Medicine, Indian Chest Society along with NCCP(I) completed the projects on the development of Indian Guidelines for Community Acquired Pneumonia, COPD and Asthma. I am further delighted to inform you that Indian Chest Society along with NCCCP(I) has decided to take-up the project for the development of Indian Guidelines for Pulmonary Functions, which the society is supposed to take-up in the month of February, 2016.
I am further delighted to inform you that Indian Chest Society is continuously increasing its international presence and has marked its presence at almost all the important international conferences including American Thoracic Society Congress and European Respiratory Society by putting up its booth. The booth of the society at all international conferences is acting as a meeting point for all national and international delegates including NRIs. A flag of tri-colour at the booth gives a feeling of pride to all the delegates of Indian origin. I am happy to inform you that many international delegates have joined the Indian Chest Society at these booths.
With great pleasure, we wish to inform that recently Indian Chest Society has decided to pay a bulk amount and signed a contract with European Respiratory Society (ERS), by virtue of which all the members of Indian Chest Society (ICS) will automatically become member of European Respiratory Society (ERS) for 3 years, thus having access to all the academic materials and many more privileges of ERS, without having to pay any amount
The society is beaming with new hope of rising to never before heights and It is my strong belief that with the cooperation and contribution of all members, Indian Chest Society will soon be a force to reckon with, having stakes in decision making and providing strong support for quality work in the field of Respiratory medicine.
